Graduate Health Insurance
As many people graduate they lack a job or health insurance to turn to. The number of people currently uninsured is around 30 million in America and recent graduates are a large portion of that number. People who are young and healthy are going to spend their money on other priorities then health insurance which many do not use.
What many recent graduates do not realize is that health insurance is a security net. It may help you when you least expect it and help you save more money then one would ever expect. Health insurance is expensive but the outcome of not having insurance is much greater.
Some colleges try to help recent graduates by sending pamphlets on insurance that students can purchase through their college. This type of insurance is only temporary and cannot be renewed over a year. Temporary insurance is a great choice for anyone who has just recently graduated and does not need comprehensive insurance.
Temporary insurance does not include prescriptions or regular doctor visits. It is more of a catastrophic plan and will help you when you get sick, need surgeries or hospital care. With this type of insurance, it allows you to still seek health care and not be afraid of paying too much for it. No one can predict when they get sick, especially when the swine flu is prevalent.
In some states, graduates can now stay on their parents’ health care plans longer. Many insurance companies and states have changed regulations on when dependent adults can stay on their parents plans. This has helped many who cannot find a job or afford insurance. In Ohio, dependent adults can stay on their parents’ plans until the age of 28 if they are unemployed and still living at home.
